Review: NARS Outremer

Quality: 2 stars

Would repurchase? No

Recommend? No

Pros: The color is very pretty

Cons: NARS packaging, Chalky, Fades, Sheer, Bad Pigmentation, Blotchy, Too expensive for below standard quality.

My thoughts: I bought this color because I collect eyeshadows that of the Blue color wheel. I was attracted to the color first seeing it on Flickr and knew that I had to see it for myself. I will say that the color is nice in the pan and is sheer when on the skin. Because of my own preferences (I prefer bold, bright, and rich in pigmentation eyeshadows) I find that this color is not my cup of tea. That doesn't necessarily mean that others may not like it....Some people do prefer a muted -sheer soft blue, of which I would say that Outremer would be perfect for. So depending on your own preference you may or may not like Outremer.

What strikes me odd is that Sephora had many colors in stock, everything looked very neat for being around the holidays, all the colors had testers, but yet this color was the only one that did not have a tester. I did not test it in the store because I would have had to open and swatch a new shadow.....I am not willing to do so because I want to avoid confrontations with Sephora's staff. As soon as I swatched it at home I quickly decided that this shadow would be going back. NARS, you really disappointed me! I am surprised at the quality of this shadow because everything else you make seems great, except this...

Outremer is chalky, fades after 5 minutes, and is blotchy on the skin. I tried it with 3 different eyeshadow primers (UDPP, Michael Todd, ELF) and it still looks gross. I admit though, it is a very nice color in the pan but I just can't add to my collection I'm sorry.

I took the time to compare to other similar blue eyeshadows. Here I used Cargo's Quad in Tahiti, MAC eyeshadow in Submarine, and my favorite Tokidoki in Skeletrina. Look at how the colors compare. Of course the sheer chalky one is Outremer. These are swatched on eyeshadow primer.

Comparisons with flash

Comparisons with natural light

Skeletrina, Submarine, Tahiti

My advice: If you happen to like Outremer then go for it, but if you happen to want a bold, bright, better blue then try MAC or even MakeUpForever or Inglot.

A Great Time Shopping

What is it with me and my hauls? I won't pretend that I hardly noticed the long absence I take blame for (sorry!) but for your enjoyment here is one of my latest hauls!

So I heard a few good things about the new lipglosses by NYC, comparable to Urban Decay Ultraglide glosses. At first I bought Plaza Punch (a favorite of mine) and went and bought 2 more (big mistake). While Plaza Punch has alot more 'color' the other 2 I have aren't as pigmented...instead give off sheer color but nice shine.
Mulberry St. Mocha
Plaza Punch (favorite!)
Big Apple Red
and a new lipgloss I really like is Lippin' Large in Pink Champagne

Found some Loreal on-the-loose shadows! Only 1 color at Dollar Tree...but I grabbed it, anyway I don't have this color!
Airy Azure - A light shimmering turquoise (sort of reminds me of the Tiffany color)

Another new favorite is the Plexi Gloss by Hard Candy, found at Walmart stores
Mauve - Alous

"Hi, I'm Erica and I'm addicted to Revlon Super Lustrous lipsticks."

('Sandalwood Beige and Mauvy Night')

...and it doesn't quite help when there are sales all around me, for example, my local grocery store has them for $2 right now!!!!!!!!!!
Yikes, I better make more room in my lipstick box :D

'Toast of New York'

'Kiss me Coral' and 'Ginger Rose'

'Peach Me'

'Berry Haute'

The collection by MAC called Venomous Villians was a big hit and I only took home 1 item, which was a lipstick, you know me!
'Innocence Beware! is not too light and not at all bright, but instead gives a soft bare pink color on the lips, since it is a creamsheen the lipstick has lots of shine...

MAC-Innocence Beware!, Revlon-Peach me, Ginger Rose, Sandalwood Beige, Berry Haute, Kiss me Coral, Toast of New York, and Mauvy Night...

It came finally! I've been dying to play around with the colors and actually use it for work, can't wait! I'm the proud owner of a...
Urban Decay 'Naked' Palette

comes with a tiny little eyeshadow primer called UDPP

(colors: Virgin, Sin, Naked...)

12 shadows in all, for $44 dollars and it also comes with Zero and Whisky - the 24/7 glide on liners by Urban Decay....
....Sidecar, Buck, Half Baked....

...Smog, Darkhorse, Toasted....

...Hustle, Creep, Gunmetal.

For halloween I decided to design something cute on each finger but I didn't have a good orange polish so I picked up this color at Sallys

Japanese Koi

All the other polishes came from all over...
Touch of Mink

Van D'go (a very nice color)

Galaxy Girl (still not sure about this color, it may go back)

Meet for Drinks (the pic doesn't do this polish much justice, this is a really nice purple burgundy color with tiny sparkles)

Moonstruck (not sure if I included this color in my last haul, lol)

Stellare Notte (same for this one! haha)

Arcadia Aqua (this is some strange brand I found, but the color is really nice!)

Last but not least, my newest addition is a nail polish by NARS called Pokerface...

So, here are the halloween nails I mentioned earlier but I'm missing one?

One thing that I love collecting (other than makeup!) are movies. I try to at least find my all-time favorites or classics....pretty much anything made in the 80's make the top of my list...Here are some I've bought recently...

(super old-school 80's!)

Honestly, this is the original Avatar...

Love it!

One of my favorites

Some more pens to add to my little collection...

A gift for myself
Something very important is going on with me at the moment and to reward myself for my hard work I decided to buy this cute Coach wristlet in purple...I will let you all know how I am doing with my change, if you don't know already! haha

Good Night my friends,

Erica, LaliAmora

Wearable Blues - Makeup

Out of all the 'blues' I tend to follow the most at my makeup vanity I realized I hadn't featured a blue look using my Urban Decay deluxe palette, which is available at Sephora...This look is fairly simple but most importantly, wearable.
I used the colors with a light hand, my main focus was blending, to create a muted look :) hopefully you all enjoy it...let me know if you have questions :)

On the Face: Moisturizer, Revlon Colorstay foundie Natural Tan, Prescriptives camo concealer
Cheeks: MAC Style blush
Lips:
Eyes: For the lid, I used UDPP then 'Peace', then 'Ransom' on the outer 3rd of the lid. To enhance the outer 'v' and crease I used NARS 'lola lola', MAC 'Vanilla' as highlight. For the bottom lashline I used Peace then dabbed on Ransom on the outer half.
On the inner corners of my eyes I used MAC 'Ricepaper'. I used Line Stiletto for the upper lashline.
Revlon Colorstay eye liner on the bottom waterline and smudged with Ransom on the outer half of lower lashline, Clinique high impact mascara. Lips: MAC 'Fast-Thrill'

My thoughts on NARS eyeshadows

Ever since my first NARS e/s I've been wanting to get to Sephora to buy more but since these are $22 a pop I wanted to save up and get them. I would say they are a good investment anyways because they are so pretty! I mean, they have great color payoff, highly pigmented, crease-free, and long-lasting. My first NARS e/s was Lola-lola, such a beautiful beige, rust golden color. When I went back to buy more I fell in love with these two.Fathom, Strada

Fathom (left), Strada (right)
Fathom is a beautiful pastel pink, baby pink color with tiny silvery sparkles that go everywhere when putting on your eyelids. I like this color because it is versatile. you can use it on the lid or as a highlight. I'm even thinking about using it as a cheek highlight, but we'll see about that : )

Strada is a very unique color, sub-dued Purple with Gold frost. You can actually see the gold color in the mirror in the above pics. This color is gorgeous! Versatile as well, I can use it either on the lid as a wash of color or in the crease. Blendable and buildable so if you want more of a deeper darker color just add more and it gives it greatly.

You can check out the colors at Sephora.com or you can go to the NARS website also.
